Just in case you slept on this one, check out Argentina laying waste to Ecuador in World Cup qualifiers on Saturday. The video is self-explanatory, but here’s a quick rundown of the scorers: Sergio “Kun” Agüero, Gonzalo “Little Pipe” Higuaín, Lionel “Little Flea” Messi, and Angel “the Noodle” Di María.
Okay, now look at Argentina’s lineup:
Romero (Sampdoria); Zabaleta (Man City), Fernandez (Napoli), Garay (Benfica), Rodriguez (Boca Jrs); Gago (Roma), Mascherano (Barcelona), Di Maria (Real Madrid); Higuaín (Real Madrid), Messi (Barcelona), Agüero (Man City). Subs from José Sosa (Metalist), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli), Maxi Rodriguez (Liverpool).
Perhaps not a UEFA Best XI, but you’d be hard pressed to put together a better lineup from the midfield on up. An off night for Antonio Valencia’s Ecuador for sure, who are usually more competitive and not that easy to steamroll.
In case you’d like another look at this team soon, and you’re not completely awash in Euro madness, get your ass to Jersey on Saturday night to see Argentina take on Brazil. Or google a stream (I don’t think it’s on TV anywhere in the US).
